Welcome to the May issue of the New Jersey Food Processors Association NJFPA NEWS. NJFPA NEWS is a quarterly electronic newsletter for association members and friends that highlights the latest news from the New Jersey Food Processors Association and its member companies.

Upcoming NJFPA Events

Annual Golf Outing June 10 at Buena Vista

The New Jersey Food Processors Association cordially invites you to join us on Thursday, June 10, 2010 for our annual Golf Outing, which will be held at Buena Vista Country Club, Route 40 and Country Club Lane in Buena, NJ. This year's tournament will be held in memory of our dear friend and colleague, Peter Pappas, an NJFPA Past President, board member, and long-time Golf Tournament Chairman, who passed away on March 8th. Peter left a wonderful legacy to his family and his business, and to the NJFPA. He worked tirelessly each year to make our golf tournament the very best it could be. Peter will be sadly missed as we dedicate this year's event to his memory. The Golf Tournament will have a scramble format with a shot gun start. This is strictly a social affair so bring your fellow employees, spouse or guest.

Reservations must be received by May 28, 2009, so please sign up your foursome, and indicate if your company would like to sponsor one or more holes, at http://www.njfoodprocessors.org/2010golfregform.pdf. If you are registering individually, teams will be assigned according to Average Score.

Registration will be from 11 AM until noon on June 10, followed by a barbecue buffet on the patio from Noon until 12:45. All golfers will tee off in a shotgun format at 1 PM sharp. Following the round of golf, trophies and door prizes will be awarded at a grand buffet dinner in the country club ballroom at 6 PM. The dinner program will also include a tribute to Peter Pappas. Those who wish to donate to our door prizes, either merchandise or a monetary donation, may do so by contacting Executive Director Fran Reilly at 856-696-3140 or email at freilly@comcast.net.

Initial Meeting of Food Safety and Quality Assurance Roundtable - May 18, 2010

Join us on May 18th at 9am for the kick-off meeting for the New Jersey Food Processors Association's new Quality Assurance Roundtable, which will be held by the Rutgers Food Innovation Center! These free roundtables, available as part of your membership in the NJFPA, will be held regularly and feature a presentation from an expert speaker, followed by a roundtable discussion. The roundtables will focus on areas of quality assurance and safety in food processing. At the May 18th meeting, we will be soliciting monthly topics from our attendees. Topics already planned include: Environmental Monitoring, Third Party Audits, In-field Micro testing, Sanitation Programs, Food Safety Training , High Pressure Pasteurization and more!

Association Updates

Record Attendance for Networking Dinner

The initial NJFPA Networking dinner of 2010 was a rousing success, with a record turnout of 63 attendees gathering at the Mt. Laurel Marriott on April 15, sponsored by the Curtis Financial Group. Steve Economou and Tom Harvey, Managing Directors of Curtis Financial, co-presented the evening's program, highlighting macroeconomic factors currently affecting the food industry, industry trending in response to those factors, and industry valuation including advice on approaching the mergers and acquisitions market. A spirited question and answer session followed.

The presentation provided our members and guests with a critically important perspective as we navigate these uncertain times, said Lou Cooperhouse, president of the NJFPA. Our Networking Dinners keep our members up-to-date about issues that are of specific value and concern to their businesses. The event was a great successnot only because of the educational value of the program but also because of the opportunity it presented for networking. Cooperhouse added, 'We are extremely grateful to Steve and Tom, as well as to Curtis' President Kevin Rudd for sponsoring our initial networking dinner this year.
