Welcome to the January issue of the New Jersey Food Processors Association NJFPA NEWS. NJFPA NEWS is a quarterly electronic newsletter for association members and friends that highlights the latest news from the New Jersey Food Processors Association and its member companies.

Upcoming NJFPA Events

Annual Conference to be held January 21, 2010! Please Register Now!

Our annual NJFPA Conference will be held on January 21, 2010 at the Buena Vista Country Club, located on Route 40 in Buena, NJ. This year's conference theme is "State and Federal Partners to Strengthen New Jersey's Food Industry", and the agenda is jam-packed with information on food safety and other critical issues to our industry.

Our keynote speaker will be Mr. Douglas Fisher, Secretary of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. Mr. Fisher's address to the conference will be entitled "Processing New Jersey's Farm Gate: The Secretary's View."

Other speakers include Richard Ritota, program manager of the Food and Drug Safety Program at the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, who will speak about food safety issues and priorities; and Vijay Juneja, Ph.D., lead scientist, predictive microbiology at the USDA Agricultural Research Service, who will talk about emerging technologies for controlling food-borne pathogens. Luncheon speakers Brian Schilling, associate director of the Rutgers Food Policy Institute, and David Brogan, vice president of environmental policy at the New Jersey Business & Industry Association will give updates from their respective organizations.

Cost to attend this outstanding conference is just $50 per person, but space is limited and cannot be confirmed until you have registered and paid, either online or by check. In addition, there are a limited number of display tables for registrants that are associate members of the NJFPA, and these display tables are just $150.

Association Updates

Francis Reilly Named Executive Director of the NJFPA

The Board of Directors of the NJFPA has announced the appointment of Francis J. Reilly as Executive Director of the organization, effective January 1.

Reilly is president of FJ Reilly Communications, Inc, a Vineland public relations and marketing agency since 1989. In 1996, Francis Reilly founded the CEO Group, a non-profit corporation of business owners and executives from thirty-nine industries in and around Cumberland County. Mr. Reilly continues to serve as that organization's Executive Director.

Reilly, a graduate of St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, recently completed eight years of service as a Trustee of Cumberland County (NJ) College, where he is a past Chairman of the Board. He has also served as a Commissioner of the Landis Sewerage Authority, and as Director of Economic Development for the City of Vineland. In addition, he has been a member of the South Jersey Economic Development District, the Vineland Downtown Improvement District, and the Bridgeton Historic District Commission.

Francis Reilly will oversee all NJFPA events, meetings and communications, and will work to grow the NJFPA membership statewide. Mr. Reilly resides in Vineland with his wife, Bonnie, and can be reached daily at Reilly Communications, 856-696-4130, or via email at freilly@comcast.net

NJFPA Debuts New Logo and Launches New Website

We are pleased to announce that the NJFPA has a new logo, and a totally updated and contemporary website! We urge all members and other interested parties to check it out at www.njfoodprocessors.org. Whether you go to the site to register for our January 21 Annual Conference, to learn more about NJFPA and our work on behalf of New Jersey's food processing and related industries, or just to check out our fancy new design, we think you'll find the site easy to use and full of valuable information.

Links to the website include an online ability to register for the annual conference and pay for membership dues, a listing of government and industry resources and related trade organizations, a listing of current NJFPA officers, and tips on available educational opportunities for your business and its employees. Our website will be continually updated and will soon include a members-only section that will list contact information for members, and a listserv that can be utilized for member communications. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with www.njfoodprocessors.org. We believe it can be a valuable resource for yourself and your business.

Our newest NJFPA associate member company, Scientific Marketing Services of Buena, NJ, helped to develop the site. SMS implements an array of marketing and website solutions on behalf of its clients, and they have played an integral role in the "new look" of the NJFPA.
